Dietitian Confession: Tomato sauce counts as a vegetable, right?

All this talk about antioxidants, fruits, and vegetables has me itching to make a confession—a #DietitianConfession.

Fruits and vegetables are important, but on days when I’m really busy, on the road, or haven’t gone grocery shopping in far too many days, it can be tough to get enough.

Some days, the closest I get to eating a fruit or vegetable is savouring the tomato sauce found between a crispy crust and a mountain of melted cheese (I’m talking about pizza!).

Planning what you’re going to eat ahead of time is a useful tool for healthy eating success, but it’s also good to forgive yourself when you fall off the healthy eating wagon. Remember that your overall eating pattern is more important than one or two days.
