With Father’s Day just around the corner, I want to devote this month’s posts to talk about men’s health.
DON'T CHANGE MUCH
A study by the Canadian Men’s Health Foundation in 2019 found that over 80% of men find their work to be stressful which affects their work-life balance, sleep quality, and risk of chronic illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and depression.
The good news is that small changes can have a big impact on your health! The campaign Don’t Change Much encourages men to take small steps towards developing healthier habits, which then translates into a healthier lifestyle.

HEALTH CHECK UPS: PROSTATE CANCER SCREEN
Check ups are an important part of being healthy as they can detect issues before they become problems. The Don’t Change Much campaign offers a free online health tool for men called YouCheck that provides a customized report on your current and future health, in addition to steps you can take to improve your health.
One particular check up that is important for men over the age of 50 is for prostate cancer. This can be done through a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test and a digital rectal exam (DRE).
Talk to your doctor to find out which screening tests are right for you and when to do them.
MEN'S HEALTH WEEK
June 15-21 is Men’s Health Week and is devoted to honouring the importance of men’s health!
The Canadian Men’s Health Foundation seeks to encourage men to actively care for their health and inspire them to live healthier lives.
Eating well, being physically active, prioritizing mental health, regular doctor’s visits, smoking cessation, and stress management are just some of the small steps that you can take to make a big impact on your health.
